Barrie would've personallyapproved this reading by Jim Dale. I've every reason to believe that J.M.
The fact that Wendy survived till the end of the book was no thanks to Tinkerbell. What was actually in my head was the pop culture/disney movie and cutesy images of Tinkerbelle. The original "mean girl". This is a much darker tale than the disney version.
I listened to this magical audiobook with my six year old daughter. The shock we felt when Tinkerbelle tells the lost boys to "shoot the Wendy" was comical and long lasting. A fact that was quite shocking to my daughter ( and me too actually) Tinkerbelle is motivated only by jealousy, hatred for Wendy and her obsessive love for Peter. It was strange for me to realize that even though I knew the story so well, I had never actually read the book.
Tinkerbelle is truly bad. No more love for Tink in our house. I could have sworn that I had. The real book is of course so much better than all of those things and Jim Dale does a superb job of bringing it all to life.
at first i thought daughter would get bored with it but she hasn't, and we are in fact listening to it for the 2nd time already. i've never read peter pan before but i think it's hysterical. my 4 yo and i really enjoy listening to this in the car (we are usually in the car 50 min 3-5 times a week). the reading is top notch.
His pacing is perfect, and the voices he does are fantastic. I'm certain Barrie's wit and creativity would jump off the page if you were to read the written version, but I have to say that Jim Dale's rendition is brilliant. Moving on to the audio aspect of the book.
Well, I had never read Barrie's story, so I started this audiobook with the expectations that it would be a fun diversion but nothing really more special than the Disney adaptation. It's a sweet and imaginative tale that will delight children and adults with excitement and fun at every turn. The story of Peter Pan is very well known, but I wonder just how many people have actually read the book.
Peter is not nearly as one dimensional as.well, the cartoon version of himself, and I even found myself feeling rather sorry for Captain Hook and Smee. I honestly think this is one of the best audiobooks, if not the best, I've ever experienced. I could not have been more wrong.
First, as to the story, it really is quite magical.
I found I don't like the story all that much, but Jim Dale's narration and ability to bring the characters to life is still awesome. If I liked the book, it would get a 5. I love Jim Dale. So this is more a review of Jim Dale's performance than of the book itself. If I hated Jim Dale's performance, I would have given it a 2. Simply LOVE HIM. I was looking forward to his reading Peter Pan because I know very little of the story.
